What is a web page?

## What is a web page made of? Every web page you look at is written in three languages: | Language | Job | Example | |---|---|---| | **HTML** | Says *what* is on the page | headings, pictures, buttons | | **CSS** | Says *how it looks* | colour, size, position | | JavaScript | Says *what it does* | something happens when you click a button | In this course we learn **HTML** and **CSS**. ## What is a tag? HTML is made of **tags**. A tag is written inside `< >` brackets, and most tags come in two parts, an opening tag and a closing tag: ```html <h1>Hello, Erdenet!</h1> ``` - `<h1>` — the opening tag - `Hello, Erdenet!` — the content (Erdenet is a city in Mongolia) - `</h1>` — the closing tag (it has a `/`) ## Your first page ```html <h1>My first page</h1> <p>I am learning HTML.</p> ``` > 💡 On the problem page, the page on the right updates every time you type code.
