🖧 Computer Networks for Beginners
What is a network?
## What is a network?
A **computer network** is two or more devices connected so they can share information. Your Wi-Fi at home, the computer room at school, the internet — they are all networks.
## Main devices
| Device | What it does |
|---|---|
| 🖥️ **Computer, phone** | Sends and receives information (a host) |
| 🔀 **Switch** | Connects the devices in one room or on one floor |
| 📡 **Router** | Joins different networks and sends packets the right way |
| 🗄️ **Server** | Provides services to others, like files and web pages |
| 📶 **Access point** | Gives a wireless (Wi-Fi) connection |
| 🧱 **Firewall** | Blocks harmful access |
## How does information travel?
Information is split into small pieces called **packets** and then sent. Like a letter, every packet has an **address** saying "from whom, to whom". Switches and routers read that address and deliver the packet to the right place.
